4 Healthy Habits for Shiny Hair

We all want sleek, healthy hair that looks like it’s been styled by a professional every day of the week. Recently made a trip to the salon and want to know how to maintain that sheen for as long as possible? There are a few simple habits you can take up to make sure your tresses look gorgeous! Here’s what you need to do:

Pick your shampoo according to your hair type

With so many products on the market, making your choice can get quite overwhelming but it’s important to keep in mind that not every shampoo will best suit your needs! Essentially, you need to understand your hair type. Fine hair usually needs volumising shampoo with protein and polymers to appear stronger. For damaged and dry hair, shampoo with ingredients like shea butter and oils are ideal. You can restore vibrancy to graying hair with specific shampoos too. Consult our stylists at your next appointment to find out which shampoo is best suited for your hair type.

Condition appropriately

If you have highly textured hair, you need a deep condition to restore moisture and vibrancy to your locks. Conditioners target your hair shaft and aren’t meant for your scalp so you need to start the conditioning process ideally 2 inches away from your scalp. Make sure there’s no excess moisture left on your hair before conditioning as this will prevent the product from penetrating the shaft.

Avoid regular heat styling

Using heat on your hair regularly will make it dry and frizzy by draining it of all moisture. We recommend using hot tools at least once a week to minimize the damage. You can also use a heat protectant product when using these tools to reduce dryness and frizz. And speaking of heat, we also recommend limiting your time in the sun as strong sunlight not only damages your skin but your hair too! However, you can reduce this damage by applying leave-in conditioner every other day before stepping out.

Overnight treatment and masks

There’s always extra steps you can take to ensure you have great hair and use of a treatment/mask is one of them! Treatments have a higher concentration of nutrients when compared to shampoo and conditioners so they provide maximum benefits when used. Since they hydrate your hair while providing more protection, this is a very efficient way to nourish your hair. Hair treatments work either by coating the hair to provide protection or penetrating the cuticle for hydration purposes. Masks are more suited for people who have colored their hair since it helps preserve hair color and keep it vibrant while also providing much-needed moisture for your hair to combat any coloring damage.
