There is a reason why we always recommend using professional hair care products. The main reason is because the products in the supermarket aren’t made with the best ingredients.
The main ones are silicones and sulphates.
Silicones are things like Propyl Dimethicone, Dimethiconol, Stearyl Methicone, Cetyl Dimethicone, Trimethylsilylamo Dimethicone and Dimethiconol Hydroxystearate… just to name a few.
Silicones are so bad because they literally create a layer of plastic over each strand of hair. Non-water-soluble silicones are very difficult to remove. These are what make your hair feel nice and soft. But they also build up so quickly and after prolonged use will weigh your hair down and make it look greasy. They also block moisture and natural oils from reaching the hair shaft.
Sulfates are standard in most house hold cleaning products. They remove dirt but they also remove natural oils from your scalp. With continued use they can cause a dry scalp and dandruff. They can also reduce the longevity of your colour.
When you want to go lighter with your colour we have to use bleach. If you have been using certain products and we put bleach on your hair there is a high chance there is going to be a pretty bad chemical reaction. The bleach heats up incredibly fast, this has the potential to cause a lot of damage to your hair.
This is why we ask you what products you have been using before we colour your hair and why its so important for you to be honest with us. There is absolutely no judgement at Grace Gold. We would never want to do any damage to your hair… hair health is SO important to us.
